My very good friend, Raoul Witteveen, generously invited me to join him and his friend Diana Calthorpe Rose in attending His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to the Netherlands. Words fall short of describing my experience of this encounter. His Holiness gave a few instructions on how to get into a meditation. Then there was the silence. The combination of the Dalai Lama’s simplicity and intensity of clarity created in me an impression of unsurpassed scope of reach. It reminded me of the saying that heaven is (also) on Earth. It can be.
